The first edition of this book was published in 2012 as a stand-alone novel soon after I had learned about stone-casting and geopolymers from a book by Joseph Davidovits called “They Built the Pyramids.” Fast forward twelve years to 2024 – I had committed to finishing “The Days of Noah Series” which I had begun soon after the first edition of Castors was written. With the end in sight, it made perfect sense to close out the series with this story of Abram in ancient Egypt, along with the subplot of Ham and Shem and their relationship being restored after centuries of estrangement.
This also gave me the opportunity to bring the story up to date with the latest research and discoveries that have been made about the pyramids, stone-casting, and also the land from which Abram originated: Urfa in the north (in eastern Syria/Turkey) rather than in Ur in southern Iraq, which was one of the primary drivers for the post-Flood books of the series.
While much of the broader story, characters, and settings in this updated edition remain the same, there are many significant differences, especially with regards to the purpose of several of the larger pyramids, particularly those of Giza in that they were built to be something other than mere tombs for the Pharaohs. Also, the theme of the updated book is more focused on Shem and Ham, Egypt, and the science of the pyramids rather than the story of Abraham.
To not give away too much of the updated plot/story, I must say that I’m deeply indebted to Geoffrey Drumm and his incredible work in re-examining the pyramids from a different, fresh perspective that has made the most sense to me thus far. While the novelization of the Book of Job (“Out of the Whirlwind”) is not technically part of the series, it has been updated to fit seamlessly into “The Days of Noah universe”, along with an updated cover and republication of all paperbacks within the series.
Over the last few years, I’ve come to think of “The Days of Noah Series” as my “life’s work” (at least so far), and now that it’s concluded, I’m finding that it’s somewhat bittersweet, as I will no longer be consumed with finishing whatever book I’m working on and no longer looking ahead to what the next one will be. It will be a little strange to not have all these characters, storylines, and ideas constantly swirling in the back of my head, ready to be put down on paper.
The overall series has taken the better part of twenty years of my life, through all the detours (and other books!), a divorce and remarriage, moving several times, selling/buying houses, and all the while working full-time as a software developer. It’ll be nice to have much more free time that’s been devoted to the series for so long, though I have several other plans to help occupy it — along with a backlog of more than 2,000 books I’ve been buying over the years but never had a chance to read.
And to think it all began with just a 3-4 second image in my mind of an ancient stargazer living before the Flood, being rudely awakened from a nap by the screams of an animal being eaten by a dragon… If memory serves, that scene is still present in book 1 (“Rise of the Anshar”) in one of the early scenes with Jada when he’s waiting for Guri to come over.
